Joe Satriani

Engines of Creation

Epic

Guitar wizard Joe Satriani’s latest effort, Engines of Creation , starts out with a flurry of guitars and synthesizers that sounds like a cross between Devo and old, stadium-shaking Van Halen. The whole album is intense, and fluxes between moments of speedy guitar riffage and subtler, technical playing. As a non-musician, I was surprised to find this album has plenty of variety and energy to hold my attention after multiple listens. Satriani has found a way to showcase his incredible guitar talent while making an album that’s interesting and accessible to the casual listener.
