Starlet

Stay on My Side

Parasol

I don’t think that Starlet could hurt a fly. But that fly could do some major damage to the emotions of this super-sensitive quartet. At least, someone must have, otherwise we wouldn’t have this charming little album.

Starlet are a soft voiced band that hails from the black metal-infested Scandinavian sub-continent. I suppose that the powers that be need some balance, and so Starlet are as light, poppy, and melodic as the black metallers are…well…evil. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Belle and Sebastian somewhere in this review, but Starlet have more heartfelt emotion than that ensemble. They sing of lost love, somewhat lost love, and love that’s not really lost, but is a good enough idea for a tune. Highlights on the record include the single “Diary & Herself,” the so-twee-it-hurts “Silver Sportscar,” and “Moving On.”
