Centro-Matic

All the Falsest Hearts Can Try

Quality Park

First (as in instant) impression… Red Red Meat, but in tune. Let’s go a bit more in depth now. There’s a slow side, and a rock side. Both sides sway towards the lo-fi sound. Harmonizing like some drunk Sebadoh, and managing to keep a steady beat. Country garage? Desert soul? Though they’ve played with bands such as the Old 97’s, Fuck, Will Oldham, and the Dirty Three, I would place them on the same bill as Crooked Fingers, or perhaps Calexico. The vocals are always just right where they should be, the bass follows underneath the guitar like a low voice, whispering secrets. The drums are underneath everything, yet on top of it all. You can shake your hips, you can share a drink, you can hold someone close and just kiss. Almost anthemic at times but never too long to get guitar overload, Centro-Matic take the beats where they need to go, we follow.
