Serendipity. No idea what to expect, from the cover I figured, “female singer-songwriter.” So I listened anyway…

…And I was blown away. At times heavy, like a mix of Black Sabbath and the Beatles, at times hauntingly mellow, like a warm morning fog coming over a harbor, this album kicks major ass, spanning from one end of the rock spectrum to the other. “Love Knot” and “Firefly” are serious metal tracks, with lots of hard, driving guitars and biting lyrics. “Good Wife” is pure melodic power pop with disturbing lyrics and vocals that are, like, sex. The same goes for “Two Days Ago.” – virgins take note.

Then there’s the weird side. “Falling Up the Stairs,” “Send Me a Postcard,” and “Happy Ending Part 1 & 2” take experimental “drug music” to a new high. To be perfectly honest, this is first on my list as the best original album of the year. Genuine proof that great, original, sexy rock is out there.
