Submachine

Fresh Out of Give-A-Fucks

Radical

So far, the best punk album of the year. And it’ll be tough for anyone to eclipse what Submachine has done. From my understanding, they’re another “one of those bands” that’s been playing and touring for years and years, perfecting their Motorhead-meets-hardcore blend of punk, and now they’re ready for a big, huge, beast of an album.

A 19-song behemoth it is, too. They’re Pennsylvania’s masters of blazing guitars, mixing, incredibly, power punk with metal chords that accounts for the appeal of Grammy-nominated Nashville Pussy.

Lyrically, they’re all over the place. They’re enigmatic (“Aimless in the Face of a Bomb”), full of piss and vinegar (“Three Wheels and a Tank of Nitros,” “Ridin’ the Rails,” and “Trocaderro Riot”), they’re also anthemic (“Blood of Heroes”) and politically bent (“Raze It” and “T.V. Preacher”). And they’re stupid (“The Beer Hunter Bong Meister”) – plus each song is introduced with some relevant movie or TV show sound bite.
