Logan’s Sanctuary

Original Soundtrack

Emperor Norton

Wow! Logan’s Run is the first SF film I remember seeing, and I still recall how much it creeped me out at the time. Twenty years later (and not a moment too soon), we have a sequel, or at least the soundtrack to the sequel. The film seems to be tied up in some sort of distribution power play between three major studios and the audio editing house that holds the looped dialog, so who knows when it will actually hit screens. Judging from the album’s artwork and plotline synopsis, it should be fantastic.

Regardless, the soundtrack is here, and it faithfully reproduces the sound established by those who would imitate noted ’70s composers like Jean-Michel Jarre and Vangelis. Swanky porno drums and guitars trade licks with a deftly plucked bass and more oscillators and comb filters than you can shake a voltage-control keyboard at. Assembled by Roger Manning and Brian Reitzell (with a bit of help from Jason Falkner and others), this should appeal to analog purists and pop perfectionists alike. Noteworthy: “Pleasure Dome 12” sounds like Kraftwerk at their minimalistest, and the stately march of “The Silver Garden.”
