A talented assassin knows the value of good poison. Good poison is nearly undetectable when first ingested, and the victim doesn’t even realize they’re as good as dead. Soon afterwards (or long afterwards) the effects begin, and once the toxin has run its course, destroying its victim, it becomes nearly impossible to determine exactly what it was that caused death in the first place, unless you know to look for that particular poison.
The point I’m trying to make here is that Kitty in the Tree’s Hello Kitty, while at first seeming to be an innocently catchy set of pop songs, lingers on long afterwards, tormenting you (or at least me) with fragments of melodies and words which leave you (or me) wondering where the hell they came from. The band’s “Starfucker” is an amazingly solid bit of ’70s AM, full of clichŽs yes, but great clichŽs nonetheless. “Together” is a bit more acoustic, a beautifully orchestrated ditty about casual sex. “She’s My Heroine” and “Galaxy Holiday” are two more great examples of all the right moves in all the right places, sharp pop that bristles with more hooks than Uncle Joe’s fishing hat.
So drink that wine without fear. Soon, you’ll be convulsing, unable to stop singing “5, 4, 3, 2, 1, zero gravity” and loving every minute of it.
