The front cover has New Americans Dan Touhy and Casey Fundaro emulating the pose of Simon and Garfunkel on the cover of Bookends. But lead singer Touhy sounds more like David Gates of Bread on the opening track, “Anna.” He seems to emulate Gates’ melodic phrasing on the album closing “Just to Know You,” as well, albeit in his much more nasal, less interesting voice.

Elsewhere the duo sounds a bit like the Jayhawks on “Lookin’ Down,” and “So Alone” comes off like a hybrid of REM, Matthew Sweet and the Hollies. And “Comin’ to An End” shows a debt to the Byrds.

A strong chorus here and there on tracks like “Take Me Back” is promising. But overall, I’m more impressed by their record collection than their talent and identity.
