Tupamaros

Our Modern Past

Stickfigure

The first song scares me. Yelling metal music, aggression overload… but moving to the next song, I am pleasantly surprised by some intriguing indie rocked-out quirkiness. Sort of reminding me of Blonde Redhead, but mellower… and some strange ties to the Eighties in sparse beat dynamics. Or that rock and roll sound that you can find when you listen to the Make-Up. It definitely grows on you, liking each song more with every listen. Sticking to the minimal preaching the rock gospel sound, and not breaking out into that “too metal” sound that happens at least once in every song. Until they start singing in another language, you can’t really tell that this band is from Germany, and when the do start rockin’ in German, it makes it maybe just a little bit more listenable.
