Ipecac

Ho, hey! Ipecac, fabled new-label-on-the-block takes a twist from their excellent series of delicious migraine releases (Fantomas, Melvins) to give us one of the most genuine Western Swing records I’ve heard since Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Boys. This talented quintet distinguishes itself not only through its dead-on interpretation of the classic American style, or its fantastically accomplished musicianship (any capable Western Swing band has more talent that ten “Alternative Rock” acts combined), but through its clever lyrics and wordplay. Classic lines like “Folks that don’t even know me tell me I’m not doing well/ If they don’t like my Saturday night/ They can all go to… Sunday school” (from “Honky Tonk Bound”) mark this as a true Western classic.
