Eaux Fortes
Collectif & Cie
Patrick Ruteg (from what my friends and I can discern from the French liner notes) created this CD as a tribute of sort of his home city, Annecy, France. It is a sound collage of field recordings taken from various parts of the city. We can hear children playing, water running, cars rushing, and various sounds of what seems to be a quiet French city. The recordings are seamlessly edited into a coherent 21-minute whole. Often it seems to be a set of aural snapshots, taken in places like bars, city intersections, babbling brooks, train stations, and places that are important to the feeling of the city. The recording is mostly very calm, but occasionally intensifying when we come across the clamor automobiles. Overall, Eaux Fortes is a very pleasant and captivating composition – fluid and quite beautiful.
