All Systems Are Go Go

Eighteenth Street Lounge Music

A thoroughly beat-mixed dance through the happy sounds of this subcategory of electronic music. Not sure what the genre is called, but the sound is a bit funky and downright snappy. Take for example the opening”Direct Drive,” bu ECD, which jumbles a plucky funk bass with short female hootings and horn stabs out of British stringbeat, and the occasional African chant, scat lead, and harpsichord line. Who knows how all this stuff was picked, but it’s a pretty loony racket. “Watchuwanna” mixes same south of the border guitar with some awesome sound oscillators and eardrum-piercing synth-horn. A bright ray of sunshine in a mostly sterile and menacing digital world.
