The Stereo

New Tokyo is Calling

Fueled By Ramen

A quick four-song shot from the Stereo to keep the home fires burning between last year’s brilliant Three Hundred and next year’s sophomore full-length. New Tokyo is Calling You finds the band refining their eighties-inspired pop-rock sound to near perfection. Imagine Rick Springfield, but eliminate the cheeseball factor and add a sharper, garage-y edge, and you’re on the right track – solid, infectiously catchy pop rock with an attitude! The title track sums it up best, with its guitar break right out of Springfield’s “Love Somebody,” but all four tracks are great. “4 AM” has a nice post-punk bassline that gives the song just the right twist. “You Were the One” is a power pop ballad, with the emphasis on the power, and “Turn the Amp On” is not the rocker the title implies, but its melancholy is tinged with hope, and it has a great hook. Can’t wait to hear more!
