Until now, much of the populace has been unable to enjoy one of Jamaica’s venerable ambassadors. Limited access and sketchy record labels have kept Half Pint’s awesome vocals and message to a whisper. Now, thanks to our friends at Cornerstone R.A.S./Skunk Records, not only has Half Pint come out roaring, there are twelve of his (many) greatest hits assembled on this album.
Whether you are on a leisurely listener or a more discerning reggae aficionado, these recordings will fill any void. Focus on the positive, optimism, and pride are echoed forth in Half Pint’s music and life, which make his songs so real and powerful, not contrived. Sublime’s Bradley Nowell gathered a lot of inspiration from Half Pint’s music, and ultimately reworked “Loving” into the anthem “What I Got.” Similarly, the Rolling Stones transformed “Winsome” into their own “Too Rude.” Not bad company!
Other songs featured on Recollection, like “Level the Vibes” and “Great Stone,” only further reinforce Half Pint[base ‘]s genius. Next time you’re thinking about grabbing a “twelve-pack,” Recollection would be a dozen that will keep you irie for years to come. Thanks to the Skunk folk who recognized and made this compilation a reality! For more, check out http://www.skunk.com
