You can never have too much Robyn Hitchcock. Luckily, ole Robyn is always glad to oblige, being not only a prolific artist but a consistently talented one. This short set from 1992 leans heavily on “recent” tracks, which means that eight years later, it’s mostly middle-period material like “Globe Of Frogs,” “Birds In Perspex” and “Driving Aloud.” A couple of solo tracks – “Satellite” and “Uncorrected Personality Traits” sneak in, and some historic stuff like “Egyptian Cream” still comes off as fresh despite its nearly fifteen-year vintage.
Altogether, Hitchcock, bassist/keyboardist Andy Metcalfe, and drummer Morris Windsor make for a tight semi-acoustic trio, and (as usual) put on an energetic and spot-on performance. Suitable for novices and completists alike.
