Japancakes

Down The Elements

Kindercore

Four tracks from Japancakes, the humorously-titled yet deadly serious instrumental band from Athens. Transforming a gloriously majestic pedal steel sound into a curiously introspective electronic counterpart is a difficult task, but Japancakes is up to the task, as these four tracks show. Altogether the four songs on here add up to 37 minutes of music, and while I’m not going to say that it’s plenty of time to repack that bong, I can’t help but notice the hallucinatory/early Pink Floyd nature of some of this stuff. Good and spacey.
