The Sunshine Fix

The Future History of a Sunshine Fix

Kindercore

Formed by Bill Doss (Olivia Tremor Control), the Sunshine Fix is another e-6 outlet for putting new spins on old themes. The Future History of a Sunshine Fix is a prelude to the LP that lurks around the corner. Although the Sunshine Fix is a recognizable OTC variant, Doss attempts to distance them from OTC. Overall, while OTC has a more straightforward 1967-68 psych sound, the Sunshine Fix brings to mind the baroque-and-roll world of the Left Banke and Free Design as well as some soulful rumblings, circa 1970-73. However, the Beatles reference points are still here. On “Last Night I had a Dream,” the best track on this 5-song EP, you can hear the Sunshine Fix paying homage to the Fab Four paying homage to skiffle maven Lonnie Donegan. It’s cheering to see that the Sunshine Fix has a broad range of musical sources. If the LP to come is as interesting as this teaser, it should be well worth the money.
