Paris, Texas

Brazilliant!

Polyvinyl

These five song CDs can be so frustrating. Tease, tease, tease, and Paris, Texas does just that. Excellent, hook-laden dynamics piercing the heart of each song. Sometimes the vocals enter into a strange Sex Pistol staccato, but with the excitement and purity of the guitars, the voice falls into it’s own dimension. The finale, “400.000,” is perhaps the mellowest of the five songs, but it’s also the most dynamic. Finding its life somewhere between new wave and right now wave. The previous songs share that ’80s taint, like the Tubeway Army trying to get a bit emo… but finding veins of sparkling indie rock along the way and using them to fly. The CD ends, fading out into a whisper, and that feels just right.
