Sloppy Seconds

Garbage Days Regurgitated

Nitro

This seven-song EP CD by Indianapolis’ Sloppy Seconds is comprised of some great covers, in particular three songs originally recorded by women (Joan Jett, Holly & the Italians, and one-off Robin Johnson), all three of which are personal sentimental faves I have in my record collection myself. Others covered include the Ramones, Black Flag (again, both of whom I’m a fan of), and the Fools’ cover of the Broadway song “I Won’t Grow Up” (from Peter Pan). The only arguable weak choice is “Kill,” originally by Alberto y Los Tres Paranoias, from the early Stiff Records stable. But even that is a lot better than a lot of “punk” that’s floating around lately. While it takes a little getting used to hear the male singer’s vocals (which are somewhere between a bellow and a caterwaul) covering the grrl-songs, the choice of material more than makes up for it. A fun little record.
