Woman on Top

Music from the Motion Picture

Sony Classical

There seems to be an awful lot of fuss about this film, and specifically about its principal, Penelope Cruz; I’ll dismiss any arguments of quality by saying that it’s yielded a pretty solid soundtrack, a classy selection of gentle Brazilian music. Fourteen tracks from the likes of Baden Powell, Xavier Cugat, and Paulinho Moska are the perfect way to pass a rainy indoors afternoon, or a night of breeze and moonlight. Outside the traditional sounds, there’s a brilliant remix of Moska’s “Falsa Baiana” by BossaCucaNova. A worthwhile sidetrack into the genre.
