Pinback

Some Voices EP

Tree

It’s easy to describe Pinback if you know your reference points: Rob Crow (Heavy Vegetable, Thingy, Optiganally Yours, Physics, and more) and Armisted Burwell Smith IV (Three Mile Pilot). Pinback borrows heavily from Crow and Smith’s styles, juxtaposing Crow’s limber and catchy approach with Smith’s haunting and ghostly tendencies. For some reason, Pinback’s music reminds me of a melody I’d hallucinate, rocking in a hammock at sunset on a small boat, on a becalmed sea. It’s simultaneously soothing and spooky.
