Shermy D

The Spark of Life

Nook and Cranny

To say that hip-hop is not my fave genre may be the understatement of the new millennium, but these 11 cuts by Gainesville’s lyrical master Shermy D clock in at less than a half-hour. And besides, Shermy D would prove the exception to my general rule, anyhow. His unabashed love of old-school ’80s hip-hop, with all the vocodered vocals, tinny sampled synthlines, and scratching, along with his hilarious sense of humor (even more evident in his live shows), make this a great half-hour for even a rap-hater like me. Produced by Shermy D and his former bandmates Karl and Brian from local postpunk band Squeaky.
