They Might Be Giants

Boss Of Me

Restless

This three track EP is made up of three versions of They Might Be Giants’ brilliant theme song for the equally brilliant TV show, Malcolm in the Middle. While three versions of a single song is a little skimpy by TMBG EP standards (the band is known for loading EPs with at least four or five non-album tracks in addition to remixes), the song is undeniably catchy, and even listening to it three times in a row isn’t obnoxious. What is surprising is that of the three versions, none of them are either of the two abbreviated versions heard on the show, nor is one of them the version heard in the witty video, which finds the boys from the series blowing up and otherwise maiming TMBG action figures ala Sid, Andy’s next-door neighbor in Toy Story. Instead, there’s a full version of the song, a nine-seconds-shorter radio edit, and an instrumental version. In any event, it’s another great track from the library of the Giants, and one well-worth owning either here or on the forthcoming Malcolm in the Middle soundtrack.
