James Murphy

Feeding The Machine

Shrapnel

Typically I don’t like to write negative reviews. But when I do, it’s usually about the band’s image and the bullshit surrounding them. I rarely attack the music, because I realize that so many people like so many different things. I at least thank James Murphy for the great graphic design and non-pretentious packaging. But to tell you the truth, I couldn’t find anything on this album that interested me besides track eight, the Al Dimeola song “Race With Devil On Spanish Highway.” I commend the guy on producing everything himself, being such a good player, and having so many endorsements. On the production end, I would prefer less boom on the bass drum, and less reverb on everything. I liked his last album better, with its raw, dry sound. But that’s about all I can say.
