Kris Kristofferson
Kristofferson
Monument/Legacy
In recent years, Kris Kristofferson might be as well known as a character actor as a singer/songwriter, but make no mistake, he is one of America’s great songwriters. Kristofferson is a remastered, reissue of Kristofferson’s first album. Of course, this album had previously been reissued as Me and Bobby McGee. That’s right, boys and girls – although Janis Joplin sang the authoritative version, Kris Kristofferson wrote the song. He’s also written classics like “Sunday Morning Coming Down,” “For the Good Times,” and “Help Me Make It Through the Night,” all of which are on this disc. Kristofferson’s songs often explore the lives of people in dire straits. His lyrics are often frank, sometimes cynical, and he always creates wonderful imagery. This new version of the album has been remastered and sounds great. It also has four unreleased tracks that really add little to a great, classic album that resonates with as much brutal honesty as it did three decades ago.
