The Great Crusades

Damaged Goods

Blue Line Recordings

My heart breaks every time I hear this album. Maybe slightly too melodramatic for some (think Williard Grant Conspiracy, Tindersticks, Bad Seeds ballads…), this band hits me hard. Moving and emotional and heartfelt angstful Americana tied more to bars and broken cigarettes than the highway drive. Sometimes calling upon the voice of Nebraska-era Springsteen, or Nighthawks-touched Tom Waits, The Great Crusades fill themselves up with images of some rainy night alone with sad photographs, and they pour their visions out like a last pint before closing time.
