Swing This, Baby III

Various Artists

Slimstyle/Beyond

I hate to say it, but I fear that the retro swing movement is now dead. The latest evidence of the genre’s demise is the third Swing This, Baby compilation, which features fifteen lackluster tracks from bands like Dem Brooklyn Bums, Vargas Swing, and The Flying Neutrinos. The disc is dreadfully dull, and dullness should never be a part of swing. I fear much of the blame simply lies in over-saturation in that every defunct ska band or former high school jazz band trumpet player causes one to five new swing bands to be created. I guess we can now sit back and wait for the Nuevo-Prog Rock craze.
