David Abir + Ashley Wales

Movement A, Study 33; Landscape

Sulfur/Beggars Banquet

Part of Sulfur Records’ “Meld” series, this, the third installment, finds them combining two ambient compositions by David Abir and Ashley Wales. Both of these tracks are beautiful compositions, yet remain not particularly memorable. They seem to fit easily into the genre Eno defined as incidental music. This is music that one can listen to attentively or play while you vacuum your house. Either situation is pretty much the same. Out of the two tracks, Abir’s is the longer one, and incorporates flourishes of cello, electronic music, and the graceful sounds of vocalist Rebecca Chamberlain. Wales’ track is more economical in its design, and therefore much easier on the listener. Out of the two tracks, this was clearly the more effective one. For fans of electronic and/or ambient music, you will most likely enjoy this release.
