The Radiators

Rattlesby

You ain’t heard of The Radiators? Shoot fool, lemme explain. They’ve been groovin’ on the Nawlins tip since everybody thought punk rock was just about safety pins. This is their twelfth release (sixth full-length); in the past they’ve been on everything from their own label, Croaker, to big boys Epic and Sony. Rattlesby is an Atlanta-area label founded by a former Warner Brothers V.P., so the production (by the guy who did Santana’s Supernatural) is top-notch, don’t be fooled into thinking this is a shoestring-budget indie by never having heard of it.

Incredibly, The Radiators have the same five-person lineup as when they started in 1978. It shows. This simmers rather than explodes, always tasty and never overpowering. If you like stuff by folks like NRBQ, Dr. John, The Meters, The Neville Brothers, and The Allman Brothers (the lead guitar playing here is noticeably inspired by Dicky Betts), you should check this out.
