DJ Ferry Corsten
Perhaps the most entertaining trance DJ to listen and dance to these days, Ferry Corsten returns with his latest megamix. Corny wordplay notwithstanding, Global Trancemissions goes straight for the jugular from the get-go, with a rousing Corsten remix of Tony Walker’s “Field Of Joy.” Yes, it’s epic, but what is wrong with emphasis being placed on dramatic, arpeggiated melody, and relentless straight-beat action? Nothing, if you ask me. Although I have to be in the right mood to listen to this, preferably driving at night or cleaning my house, Dutchman Corsten’s latest effort is pure tingling fun.
You seem to be a pariah in electronic circles these days if you’re a big trance fan, but I say let any of Corsten’s numerous mixes change your mind. The diva vocals are kept to a minimum, thankfully, but it is used to sultry effect on Perpetuous Dreamer’s “The Sound of Goodbye.” The keyboards pulsate, with the fuzzy siren strings carrying weight on most of the tracks. The producer-DJ has once again proven why he’s so recognized in a field with such mixed viewpoints. From my standpoint, it’s a party, and Ferry Corsten’s Trancemissions would be one of my top choices to evoke dance floor frenzy. Better than the last ten Moonshine releases, but it is merely a footnote in Corsten’s burgeoning career.
