Super XX Man

Volume V

Super XX Man is the solo alter ego of Silver Scooter frontman Scott Garred. While both projects fall firmly into the realm of indie pop, there•s a definite difference between the full, atmospheric, and more upbeat sound of Silver Scooter (whose new The Blue Law is also well worth checking out) and the folkier, dreamier work on this record. It•s this feel, combined with the intimate nature of Garred•s songs, that makes Volume V seem so immediate and precious. It•s easy to get absorbed in Garred•s quiet, picturesque story-songs, his yearning voice and acoustic guitar strumming quickly draw the listener in. Highlights include the offbeat •You Dream Fast,• the simple and beautiful •Lonely Old Night,• the spritely •Miss You So Sincerely,• and the appropriately haunting •House, Haunted.• A gentle, gorgeous, and compelling effort.

Archikulture Digest

Blood, guts, and kicking butt in France — it’s the age-old story of Shakespeare. Carl F. Gauze once again enjoys the salacious violence and complicated plot points of Henry V, in the moody dark of Orlando Shakes.
