Progressive History X
A compilation by this trio who specialize in dance and trip hop music, this release makes an effort of tracking down long out-of-print singles, rarities and their five UK top 40 tracks. While the disc starts off with, “Thumper,” a song I really did not care for, the album gets progressively better. The last five or six tracks on this disc contain the aforementioned chart toppers — and rightfully so, these tracks are much more compelling than many of the preceding tracks. The music is catchier and more inviting to dance. While steering between a variety of styles and hybrids, at their best Fluke creates music that is memorable and catchy. However, there are a few tracks that drag on too long and leave one reaching for the eject button on the disc player. Since this track does feature the song “Absurd,” which is also featured on the Tomb Raider soundtrack, this may be a good place to start for fans intrigued by this single. Otherwise, this is a fine but uneven collection of dance tracks.
