Legally Blonde
Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
A&M
If you’ve seen the movie, odds are, you probably have some remembrance of the super-sweet soundtrack that kept it going. With the opening song, “Perfect Day,” by until now M.I.A Hawaiian pop star Hoku, all the way to the totally inventive Police remake “Magic” from hip-hops throaty Black Eyed Peas (featuring Terry Dexter), this soundtrack spells fun. Even though in general it’s about as sugar-coated as Elle Woods’ wardrobe, the Legally Blonde soundtrack gives room to Lisa Loeb, who does a great “I still want him” song, Vanessa Carlton, who performs a perfect long distance relationship/”he doesn’t know I’m in love with him” song, Superchic[k], who belt some of the coolest lyrics on the disc (“The “super” doesn’t stand for model, but that doesn’t mean I’m plain/If all you see is how I look, you miss the superchick within and I christen you Titanic/Underestimate and swim”) and punky grrrl group Lo-Ball. It’s not a soundtrack that will exactly be winning awards, but it’s a fun, lighthearted collection with a few spins and worth buying for the totally rad Black Eyed Peas track, if for nothing else.
