Afro-Cuban Salsa Music
You get to the point with a lot of world music that if you own one CD, you own them all, and this is no more realistic than with Spanish-inspired music. After a while, all the bands and all the singers blend together to make one really big group of people who are singing in a language we don’t understand a word of. Salsa Europe, Candela Records’ newest project, is an exception. Each track is from a different part of the world, which makes it so much more versatile, and while anyone who doesn’t speak Spanish muy bien is still struggling with the language barrier, all you have to do is just close your eyes and let the music move you. From Norway to Finland, various groups bring us some of the best modern salsa music. Take this CD to your dance instructor, or pick it up if you want to learn how to salsa in the privacy of your own home (warning: proper attire still required, no pajama salsa dancing is allowed) and just need a little inspiration. Salsa Europe, proof that if you own one salsa CD, you do indeed not own them all.
