Anyone knows that French men tend to be very clean and well-educated (and these are vast generalizations, so please forgive me), but I think you’ll find that French men are also bosses when it comes to electronic music. The French House movement – so nicely crafted by the likes of Air, Daft Punk, etc. – is now welcoming its newest member, Modjo. You’ve most likely heard the first single off of their self-titled debut, “Lady (Hear Me Tonight),” and trust me, if you like that song, even remotely, it only gets better. “Chillin’” has the unmistakable French filtered sound down to a science. “What I Mean” and “Peace of Mind” are borderline pop, with an exotic flavor. This album should be on every “Top Ten” list for 2001, but since it’s not completely saturated in media recognition, on my own list, it easily slides into the top four. Don’t let this one pass you by.
