Deepcut To Nowhere

Razor & Tie

Dark, shadow-filled rock n’ roll Americana, dirt road driving and touched with whiskey. A little Tom Waits-ish in parts, but a lot more Creedence Clearwater Revival. Sometimes a chorus hits me like a good American version of a band like The Tragically Hip, but that may not work for everyone. There’s a nice twang to the guitars, mixing with the dust and dirt of the bass line, and the vocals, slightly gritty and strained, hold the whole thing together. Singing songs about rain and mountains and Jacksonville and bad love, lost love, no love at all. The slide guitar brings out more of the country references, but this doesn’t feel like a country CD. The last song hits hard and mellow, slow accordion and rain in my eyes.
