Lucky 57

Lovely Melancholy

Country-rock-pop-blues. No, I’m not just combining genres for the hell of it; that’s what Lucky 57 does.

This album, their debut, marries twang to pop melodies. As odd as this may sound, Boston-based Lucky 57 carries it off with near perfection, an amazing concoction of musical tastes.

Starting out with a pop-rocker, “Sips of Wine, Coffee Chaser,” Lucky 57 set the tone early with solid instrument work and excellent vocals, before getting dirty in some blues. The fourth track, “You Don’t Miss Your Water,” is a very good blues song in its own right, and leads well into the country feeling “Never Quite Good Enough Blues.”

This is a very solid album from an band that has been getting praise throughout the Northeast. Country and pop — hot damn.
