Blood Red Throne
Monument Of Death
Thank God for this one. The last record I reviewed was so weak that I had begun to lactate… until I put on Monument Of Death. Two words: Bru Tal.
Make no mistake about Blood Red Throne: their music is as evil and destructive as their name suggests! Imagine the best parts of early Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse’s vocalist, mid-career Slayer guitars, and the quality drum production of anything on Earache, and you have Blood Red Throne… truly a juggernaut of grind.
Monument Of Death opens with the aptly titled “Portrait of a Killer;” the guitars go straight for the jugular and don’t let up. The fourth track, “Dream Controlled Murder,” features late ’80s style Napalm Death drumming, so fast and pounding that my lower intestine was shaken out through me cornhole!
This record is like a metal decathalon! “Mary Whispers of Death” is a classic metal rocker (mid-tempo rock stomp) with a violent chorus which leaves me begging for the sanity of the verse.
Sweet Christ, this record is fantastic! The riffs on this record are as hot AS ANYTHING EVER DONE BY the metal legends (insert metal legend here).
Completely unforgiving, Monument Of Death should be given to any alienated teenage high school kid as a method of coping with not fitting in. After they heard this, not only would they not want to fit in anymore, but they’d probably just beat the crap out of anybody who tried to screw with them.
Easily one of the ten best records of 2001.
