Dean Quixote

The Soundtrack to the Film…

spinART

Not sure if this film – Dean Quixote – isn’t out yet, or if I missed it. Either way, the soundtrack is intriguing enough to make me want to see it. Featuring a cast of spinART regulars and satellites (The Minders, The Apples in Stereo, Olivia Tremor Control, Guided By Voices), the songs on here hang together quite well, providing a healthy dose of pop, sometimes lush, something sweet, sometimes discordant. Rebar’s “The Burn That is On Me” is heavy and makes me woozy. They also close the album with a pretty nice rendition of “Legalize It.” Beachwood Sparks’ “This is What it Feels Like” is light and shimmering, in stark contrast to Songs:Ohia’s “Hot Black Silk,” obsessed and distressed. A great selection of great music.
