Otto Von Schirach

Otto Von Schirach

Escala Frio

Once the vague grandeur and sci-fi elements that are narratives of IDM/glitch/electro get stripped away, the pure experimental satisfaction of the music emerges. For every bleep, blip, gurgle and fizz, the rhythm, which is essential, ranges from subtle to blatant. Artists like Otto Von Schirach capitalize on these infinite possibilities with merely a drum machine, sampler, and few other toys. Ahh, the wonders of technology. Constant revisions of software and hardware have made it permissible for artists like Schirach to expand on their art.

On his second full length, the Miami native doesn’t necessarily stretch the boundaries, but just gives it a slight upgrade. From the foundations of the tweaked out madness that was his debut, 8000 BC, Schirach’s fine-tuned his craft to create something a bit more understandable, slightly melodic and most of all, meticulous. If you’ve already become familiar with artists on Schematic and Tigerbeat6, then this release is really nothing new. It is once again a perplexing, delectable trip back to the fourth dimension, the world where soul and machine play together, a world that is almost becoming too familiar nowadays. But then again, it beats listening to your uncle’s Emerson, Lake and Palmer records.
