In the highly volatile world of dance music, where most acts can’t even spell “longevity,” it’s hard to believe the career Francois K.’s having. The man who brought us Musique’s “Push Push in the Bush” (one of my all-time favorites) is still around — and thriving. K. is the prime mover — his hands gripping firmly onto so many of the great acts in music. He’s worked with U2, Eurythmics, The Cure, Mick Jagger, Thomas Dolby, Diana Ross, Depeche Mode, and Erasure. Nowadays, his Midas touch can be felt on Dido, Finlay Quaye, Kraftwerk, and Cesaria Evora projects. I haven’t even mentioned his label, Wave Music, which scored a huge hit a little over a year ago with Bossa Mundo.

Yes, a brevity that even fruit flies marvel at exists in dance music, and yet, Francois is still around — still mixing up a storm — and still coming out with great music. It’s hard to believe and makes you wonder how he does it. Well, before you go looking for contracts with Satan, pop in Deep And Sexy.

Francois K. gives a flawless mix of the deepest house you’ve heard in years. A steady, melodic groove, this disc can do nothing but move you. The schmoove dubs of Blue 6 and Itaal Shur (which makes you realize Roger Troutman’s spirit lives on), the Afrohouse “Otama Grosso” by ADNY, the Hammond funk of Boyd Jarvis’ “Sunny Days”; and the erotic soul of Verna Francis on Nathan Haines’ “Earth is the Place”: all of it moves, grooves, and clues you in on the continued genius of Francois K.
