Allure

Sunny Days

MCA

With a competitive sound like that of Destiny’s Child or Keke Wyatt, the quartet Allure offers their second album packed with a host of Saturday night songs such as “Bump” (featuring Nucci Rey O), “Kool Wit Me,” and “Sunny Day.” While most of the songs are slow and about guys, there are a few standout ballads. “The Shore (Wanna Be Your Lady)” (featuring Miri Ben-Ari), complete with thunderstorm effects, is a energetic look at the ins and outs of relationships, “Wore Out Your Welcome” is about getting away from a bad relationship, and “Lady” has an extra dose of piano driven soul that drives home the idea of wanting what you don’t quite have. Because of the remaining generic ballads, it’s easy to sweep Allure under the rug, but their club friendly songs are proof of a fun group capable of standing out in the increasingly large genre of smooth R&B female groups. If you’re already a fan this should please you to no end, but if you’re looking for a new R&B group that doesn’t sound like just about everything else, look elsewhere. The talent is there, but the niche is too plain and overdone.
