The Saturday People

Saturday People

Slumberland

Fifteen tracks of pleasant pop music performed with enough aplomb and care to soothe the most difficult listener. At times they remind me of the Australian pop group The Lucksmiths, but they lack their penchant for witty lyrics. At their best, like on “Upside Down Girl,” The Saturday People meld some clever guitar licks with some background “oohs and aahhs” to offer up the aural equivalent of cotton candy. Sticky, sweet, and eminently listenable, but too much cotton candy and one is liable to get a helluva stomachache. At fifteen tracks, The Saturday People would have been wise to edit this release down to the stronger tracks and omit some of the fat. Altogether, this isn’t a bad release, but not terribly memorable either.
