Dusty Springfield
The Ultimate Collection
Hip-O / Universal
Three of the best and most distinctive female voices of the sixties belonged to Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, and a blonde haired, blue-eyed Brit named Dusty Springfield. There may have been women that sold more records, but few have created the solid body of work that Dusty Springfield amassed in her career, or influenced other singers as much. Dusty Springfield’s career has been gathered in an Ultimate Collection that truly lives up to the billing. From her great early songs like “Wishin’ & Hopin’” and “I Only Want to Be With You,” to her signature song “Son of a Preacher Man,” to her comeback with The Pet Shop Boys, “What Have I Done to Deserve This?,” this single disc covers her entire career with no filler and no obvious omissions. Everyone should own at least one Dusty Springfield disc, and either Dusty In Memphis or The Ultimate Collection would be a great choice.
