Yuji Oniki

Tvi

Future Farmer

Yuji Oniki writes gorgeous pop songs, the kind with soaring melodies that stick. The arrangements are thick and lush, peppered with piano, horns, strings, and blessed with collaborative help from the likes of Doug Gillard of Guided By Voices and Bill Swan of Beulah. The result is clean pop shined to a brilliant finish. Some of this wouldn’t be so out of place among the soft radio pop from the ’70s, yet it sounds updated enough to where I wouldn’t believe it to be some faded thrift store gem if it were played for me today. Masterfully done.
