Gosford Park: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Decca

Gosford Park – starring Ryan Phillippe, Kristin Scott Thomas, Kelly MacDonald, and Bob Balaban – serves up perfect tea, a not so perfect murder, strange relationships, and a mostly light-hearted, piano-driven soundtrack composed by Patrick Doyle. The music fits the 1930s period perfectly, and explores the inner dynamics of the group of characters who are staying for a weekend of shooting in Britain (that soon turns into a whodunit full of laughs). Fans of Ivor Novello will be beside themselves, as he not only is on the soundtrack but also stars in the movie and performs songs such as “Why Isn’t It You?,” “And Her Mother Came Too,” “I Can Give You the Starlight,” “What a Duke Should Be,” and “The Land of Might-Have-Been.” Abigail Doyle also donates “Only For a While” and “The Way It’s Meant to Be” to the soundtrack, which is overall a light, European jazz wonder.
