Tijuana Crime Scene

These guys are labelmates with the likes of Juliana Theory, Dawson High, and the very wonderful National Acrobat. Anyway, I went to the band’s Web site because I didn’t really know anything about them, and while I was browsing around, I clicked on a link called “Jail Babes.” It was the most hilarious thing I’ve ever seen! An actual page profiling women in jail, to which you can write and get hooked up with! Trust me, it’s worth checking out.
Anyway, Tijuana Crime Scene play light emo rock, in the vein of Vagrant Records’ Koufax (I liked Leftovers better). The music is very singable and lyrically heavy. For the most part, the songs rock in a late-‘70s/early ’80s pop/rock kind of way. Track four sounds very much like a Rentals song, complete with the hugely played out Moog synthesizer.
The band features links to Get Up Kids, Ultimate Fakebook, and The Anniversary, among others, on their Web site, and I find comparisons to all of those bands fitting. This is very safe indie rock for the kids with lots of gel in their hair and the black plastic glasses. It’s just unique enough to keep the jocks away, but inviting and emotional enough to keep the indie girls by your side.
