Global Expeditions in Nu Jazz + Broken Beats

Om

If you are at all familiar with Om Records, you know what to automatically expect when you see one of their releases: a quality album full of soulful dance music with impact that is good chill and great dance music. And, as soon as you hear the deep groove of Fragment Orchestra’s “The Muse,” you know you’re in for a ride that’s the farthest thing from disappointing. You see the subtitle. Therefore, you’ve got to know that a Jazzanova appearance is mandatory. And their “Coffee Talk” is a Brazilian beat scorcher that pounds harder and faster than Jerry Falwell during another of his homophobic tirades. Stratopheric reaches that level on “Move On 1st and 2nd Movements” (especially on the second). Afro-Mystik breaks a ferocious beat over a deep, thumping bass, nice keys, and a tribal chant loop with “Odyssey.” And King Kooba and Tosca make fine appearances with their own contributions. Om never ceases to amaze me, and I listened to this disc with wide eyes. You are likely to do the same.
