Earshot

Letting Go

Warner

Earshot play that sort of moody, funky angst-metal that starts off thumping, then goes into a quiet bit, then goes all raving wild, and so on. All is done with an eye to what’s hot on rock radio these days, obviously, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Or a good thing, for that matter.

Earshot do have a problem in that they sound like everyone else from Nickelback to Deftones, but all the same they are so energetic and in-your-face, while still retaining that crucial element of poppiness, that there’s no real reason to write them off as mere copyists. Not quite yet, in any case. “Not Afraid” is the best one, simply because that’s the one with the best shot at conquering radio, which is what this music is all about anyway. It’s an alright album, this, but it doesn’t really matter, does it?
