The Alan Lomax Collection

I tell you what, without that blood curdling soprano notoriously ubiquitous in Bollywood films, Indian music can be enjoyable at times (believe me, it’s taken me years to admit this one). Though I can in no way fake being an authority here, I can say that this study of Indian “Folk and Primitive Music” (the subtitle to the disc) is something really worth listening to — whether you’re an amateur ethnomusicologist, cultural anthropologist, or simply a music fan. There are devotional, folk, and India classical songs on the disc, and before I sound like an ass trying to be erudite, I’ll simply recommend it. Give this disc a listen — not because you’re trying to be liberal, PC, or multicultural — but simply because you like good music — no matter where it’s from.
